Apical Left Ventricle Thrombus: 2D, 3D Transthoracic Echocardiography & Magnetic Resonance Imaging

A 75-year-old female patient was admitted for evaluation following an acute myocardial infarction. During the initial assessment, a transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) was performed, revealing a mobile thrombus located in the apical region of the left ventricle. To further characterize and confirm the presence of the thrombus, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was conducted, which corroborated the echocardiographic findings of an apical mobile thrombus.

This case highlights the importance of multimodal imaging in the diagnosis of intracardiac thrombi, particularly in the context of myocardial infarction where left ventricular thrombus formation is a recognized complication. Early detection is crucial for initiating appropriate anticoagulation therapy to reduce the risk of embolic events.
